On Wednesday 3rd July at exactly 3:30pm, Foo Fighters appeared on streets across the UK as the words “Foo Fighters, Today’s Song” lit up City Outdoor’s iconic large format digital screens. Simple, bold, and unmistakably powerful – the message signalled the release of brand-new music from the band, coinciding with their 1995 debut album’s 30th anniversary.
The band’s stripped-back yet striking announcement brought fans straight into the heart of the story. With no flashy visuals or cryptic teasers, just the band’s name and the song title in bold type, turning heads on the ground as well as sparking an immediate buzz online.
The release follows a tough chapter for the band. In his letter on social media accompanying the release, Grohl honoured former and current bandmates, including a moving tribute to Hawkins: “Your name is spoken every day… you are still in everything we do, everywhere we go, forever.”
The campaign’s bold simplicity – a single phrase on giant digital canvases – echoed the band’s message: Let’s keep moving.
City Outdoor was proud to be part of the moment – broadcasting it loud and clear to fans on the street, who looked up to see not just a new release, but the start of the next Foo Fighters chapter.
